Standert PFADFINDER

Standert Pfadfinder Review: The Ultimate All-Road and Gravel Bike for Real-World Riding

I've had the pleasure of experiencing the versatility of the Standert Pfadfinder. Like many older cyclists, my riding has evolved. Gone are the days of high-mountain epics and twenty-hour training weeks. My current cycling life revolves around a diverse mix of road riding, gravel adventures, and what I affectionately call "Edgelands"™️ – the urban wilderness and dirt tracks of North London and beyond. This includes local park laps, weekend group rides, navigating city streets, exploring Surrey's dirt trails, and even some bikepacking trips.

For this varied terrain, the Standert Pfadfinder has proven to be the ideal companion. Its adaptability is truly impressive. I utilize two wheelsets: one equipped with fast-rolling 28mm Pirelli P-Zero tires for road excursions and another with grippy 35mm Pirelli Cinturato tires mounted on the fantastic new Chris King GRD 23 wheels for off-road adventures.

This bike truly embodies the "do-it-all" ethos. Think of it as a Swiss Army knife on two wheels. The geometry is expertly dialed for confident road handling, while the generous tire clearance opens up a world of off-pavement possibilities. It's perfectly tailored to how and where I actually ride.

Of course, there are lighter bikes on the market, and others boast even wider tire clearance. However, with experience comes perspective. I've come to realize that the genuine freedom and pure enjoyment this incredibly versatile bike delivers far outweigh the relentless pursuit of marginal gains touted by the cycling industry – the constant noise about lighter, stiffer, and more aerodynamic bikes at speeds most of us simply don't ride.
